Issue #2 - Term 2, 2021

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe that we are in the last week of term. As always, there has been a lot happening in and around SFX, and I am proud of how well everyone has handled themselves in the busyness of the term.

Please enjoy this edition of the Newsletter, and I wish you all a safe, healthy and happy holiday break. 

NEW RECEPTION CLASSES.. I would like to welcome the new Reception classes to SFX. We have two classes, and they have now completed their transition visits in readiness to commence school in Term 3. It is an exciting time for these children and their families, and we wish them all the best for their journey at SFX.

REPORTS.. School Reports have been distributed, and no doubt by now you have all had a chance to read them. These Reports are a summary of how your child is progressing in the first half of the year. If you have any questions about your child's Report, please make a time to meet with your child's class teacher or specialist teacher.

STAFF v STUDENT VOLLEYBALL MATCH.. Another initiative we have introduced at SFX is a termly Staff v Student activity. By introducing these, we aim to raise awareness for different charities, and help those in need. This Friday at 2pm, the Year 6 Students will take on the teachers in a Volleyball match in Xavier Hall. We are aiming for all children to donate a can of soup (soup drive) and wear "Pyjackies" (pyjamas or trackies). This will also be a fun way to celebrate the end of the first semester.

STEM.. The Year 3 & 4 classes have been working hard in STEM this term with Mr Mark Roberts. On Friday morning, students will showcase their designs from 8.30am - 9.30am in Xavier Hall. Families are invited to attend.

INDEPENDENCE DAY.. We wish to advise that Term 3 Independence Day will be a Wednesday. Thank you for your support in not entering the school grounds with your child/ren on a Wednesday morning or afternoon in Term 3. Should you need to come into the school for any purpose, please send your child in independently and continue to the Front Office to sign yourself in.

CITY TO BAY.. On Sunday, 19th September we will be participating in the City to Bay as a school. Hayley Fieldhouse is coordinating this on behalf of the school, and we hope to see lots of staff, students and parents participating and having a go! Hayley will send out more information next term.

HEALTH HUSTLES.. Next term we are introducing Health Hustles on Friday mornings at 8.40am. The Year 6 students will be leading us on the mound outside the Reception classrooms. I look forward to seeing all the children join in.

BIRTHDAYS.. Just a reminder that children/parents are not permitted to bring in food to share for birthdays. We have many children with allergies, and some of them may react to unknown foods. Thank you for respecting this directive.

SRC.. This week we officially farewell our Semester 1 SRC students with a morning tea in the Staff Room. The SRC have been instrumental in school improvement and have made a real impact at SFX. Next semester we have two more new representatives from each class.

As we are being inundated with children attending Playgroup, we have added another day. Next term, Playgroup will be held on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday (new day).

If your child is eligible to receive their Sacraments in 2022, there will be some informal information sessions after the 6pm Mass on Saturday, 24th July at St John XXIII, and the 10am Mass on Sunday, 25th July at Holy Trinity. It is anticipated that these sessions will only be of around 10 minutes duration.

Learning an instrument can have an immense impact on cognitive development, social interaction and simply enjoying life! Here at SFX we are dedicated to offering opportunities for learners to participate, be creative and achieve through our music program. Our music tutors are all highly experienced, qualified musicians and teachers. They are dedicated to providing high level music tuition to our entire school community. Students receive one 30 minute lesson per week. The following lessons are offered, some individual lessons only, and some can be paired/grouped:

For those that were there, you would already know what a fabulous evening Quiz Night was! Our sincere thanks is extended to Grace and the PCC, together with other community members for their organisation and assistance in bringing this night to fruition. After a lengthy period of not being able to have community events, this one was certainly enjoyed by those in attendance.   

The Quiz Masters were fabulous, and they are already making plans for the next one!!!

Obviously no event is successful without attendees, and I thank those that came along and took part in the games, auctions and laughs, and contributed to the fantastic vibe on the night. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful community.

Congratulations to Steve, our awesome cleaner and his table for winning the Quiz Night part of the evening, and of course to Mario who won pretty much everything else!!!! Til next time!
