Book Week
This year, Book Week 2021 is scheduled for Saturday, 21st - Friday, 27th August (Term 3, Week 6), so there’s plenty of time to start thinking about costume ideas!!
The theme this year is 'Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds' – this is a fairly broad theme, so we are looking forward to seeing what the students come up with. Library staff have already started preparing displays and activities for the week - we are thinking dinosaurs, knights, space travel, robots, aliens, wizards etc!
The costume parade will be held in Xavier Hall (or courts, weather permitting) on Monday, 23rd August at 9am. Parents/Carers are welcome to stay and enjoy the fun.
Premier's Reading Challenge
We have had a wonderful response to this year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge with almost 70% of students having completed the Challenge so far, including a number of classes who have returned Challenge forms for all students! Congratulations to Room 3 who were the first class to complete the Challenge!
We are hoping that you will join us in attempting to reach our goal of 100% completion, by encouraging your child to enter the details of the books as they read them and then return their reading record sheet to the library. If students need a reminder of the books they
have borrowed and read this year, library staff are able to provide this to assist them with completing their forms.
Students have until Friday, 3rd September, 2021 to complete their reading for the Challenge and to hand in their forms to their class teacher or to one of the library staff members. Certificates and medals will be awarded in November.
For more information regarding the Premier’s Reading Challenge, including guidelines, participating books and awards, please visit the
website, or feel free to come in to the library for a chat with Lynda or Jan.
Overdue/Lost/Damaged Books
Unfortunately we continue to have an issue with overdue, lost and damaged books. Please note that student loans are for 14 days and books need to be returned to the library within that time. Students may extend the loan for an additional 14 days, however, they must bring the book(s) into the library and ask a staff member for a loan extension.
Should you receive an email from the library advising that your child has overdue books, could you please ensure that they return them to the library as a matter of urgency. Should books fail to be returned after reminders have been sent, an invoice may be sent home requesting payment to replace these books. If the books are then found, please urgently return to the library, otherwise payment will be required. Invoices may also be issued where a stud
ent returns a library book that is damaged beyond repair.
While all students are advised and reminded of any overdue books when they come into the library, Years 4, 5 & 6 students will also be copied on the overdue notices that are emailed to parents/caregivers (via the student SFX email address). We hope, with support from families, that this will encourage students to take ownership of their loans.
Please note, students who have overdue items cannot borrow any resources (including laptops used in the classroom) until ALL overdue items have been returned or any invoice for lost books has been settled.
Thank you for your support.
