Issue #1 - Term 2, 2021

Happy Mother's Day!

I would like to wish all the Mums and Grandmothers a very Happy Mother's Day on Sunday. May you be spoilt and enjoy a relaxing day with your family.

Dear Lord, Please watch over and support all mothers and help them to know how much they are loved and appreciated on Mother’s Day and every day.

Starting from next week (Tuesday, 11th May), we are introducing a school-wide Independence Day (both drop off and pick up).

The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It has been an annual event for schools since 2008. This year the students from SFX will be once again undertaking the NAPLAN assessments online. The assessments commence on Tuesday, 11th May. Schools who are undertaking NAPLAN online have a 9-day period to complete the tests.

I just wanted to say a brief thank you for the welcome I have received over the past two weeks from families and students across the school. I have had the opportunity to introduce myself to all classes, and many parents have said 'hello' and also introduced themselves.

It was wonderful to be able to join in and meet many of our mum’s during yesterday’s Mother’s Day Liturgy for Reception students, and I look forward to making your acquaintance over the coming weeks and months. I apologise in advance if I don’t remember all names straight away, as I try to remember 50 plus staff and over 430 students!!!  

Good luck to whichever team you support in this week’s Showdown, and all the very best to our mums and significant other females in our lives. We may celebrate you once a year, but love you for what you do every day of our lives.

Catholic Education Week - Monday, 3rd - Sunday, 9th May
#RaisingHeartsAndMinds

This week has a core focus on celebrating teaching and learning and what it means to be part of a Catholic School Community. The theme for this year was Raising Hearts and Minds to the wonder and awe of God’s creation.

Next term we will have two new Reception classes starting at SFX. Having two new classes commencing mid year is a first for us, and something that we are extremely proud of.

There are still limited positions available for this intake, so if you or somebody you know is interested in starting in Term 3, please contact Sonya as soon as possible (8251 9555).

To commence in Term 3 your child must be turning 5 between 1st May and 31st October, 2021.

And remember, there will be no school fees charged for Terms 3 or 4 this year, for children commencing Reception in Term 3!

You would have noticed that we are increasing the use of the Qkr! App within the school. Qkr! has been used for students lunch orders for sometime, and with the ongoing COVID concerns as well as cashless society that we are becoming, we are now utilising and extending our use of this system.

A reminder that the Qkr! App can be downloaded from your app store, and further details can be found on our website.

As you are all aware, the school bell has been replaced with music. Every Monday we play the Crows and/or Power song if they win. We all know which song Jason wants to hear next week!!!!

School bell times for the start and end of the day are as follows:

8:50am - Bell goes to start the day
3:15pm - Bell goes to end the day

If you are late (after 9am) you are required to sign in at the Front Office. If your child needs to leave before 3pm for an appointment, they also need to be signed out at the Front Office.

The chickens have arrived, and the children are extremely excited. The Year 5 classes will be responsible for the chickens, making sure they are well fed and that their cage is clean and comfortable. We have 10 Isa Browns who will shortly become free range during the day once they have settled into their new environment.

On Friday, 18th June we have our SFX Quiz Night in the school hall. Tickets will go on sale Monday via the Qkr! App. There will be 10 people per table, with a $10 per person entry fee. BYO drinks and nibbles!

The PCC are working hard to make this a fun and entertaining night with games and auctions, including the children's artwork. So, book the babysitters and lock it in your calendar! 7pm for a 7:30 start!

Other activities planned for the year are the Colour Run and City to Bay Fun

Last week our Year 5 and Year 6 boys represented SFX at the SAPSASA District Carnival for schools in the TTG zone. The boys won, and this is a fair effort as they played state schools that still have Year 7 students.

The new Year 1 and Year 2 building is coming along, with the framework nearing completion. The new classrooms will be like those in the Reception building, but this building will house 6 classrooms. There will be break out spaces, a piazza, as well as toilets inside the building. We are incredibly lucky to have these wonderful facilities at our school.
